Variance Strikes Again

Posted by Curtom | April 16, 2008 | Posted in: Articles, News, Tournament |

I had to endure yet another bad beat deep into the WSOP Qualifier with only 21 players left. The pot had $28,000 it it. I was on the button with AKos. It folded around to middle position and he brought it in for a raise to $1800 after two limpers. He had a stack of around $30k. I was sitting on $12k and the blinds had just gone up to $600/ $300. I re-raised all-in and he calls imediately and turns over A4s (clubs).

The flop comes down [X][X][4].

No help on the turn or river and I am gone that quick. Absolutely unreal. For the life of me I don’t understand that call. At best he is a three to two dog if he believes he has one over card. That’s just not the kinda situation I am looking to get one-third of my chips in with.

Certainly a tough way to go out but what can I do? Try again tomorrow and get a better result is all you can do.

Take care,

Curtis III
