Super System 2 Poker Book Review
Posted by Curtom | July 7, 2008 | Posted in: Articles, Reviews, Strategy |Super System 2 is the second poker strategy booked authored by none other than Doyle Brunson along with some of the best collaborators in the poker world. Doyle brings in the likes of Dan Negreanu, Lyle Berman, Johnny Chan, Bobby Baldwin, Mike Cairo, and Jennifer Harmon to cover a myriad of poker strategies for both cash games and poker tournament play.
Some would suggest along with the original Super System that Super System 2 is the quentisential book on poker strategy.
Personally, the online portion of the book does a lot of not so subtle promotion of Doyles online poker room. I thought that was kind of tacky and unnecessary. Doyle can more than stand on his own in terms of poker knowledge but it doesn’t endear him to his readers to constantly promote “Doyles Room” within the pages of the online poker section.
This book is not for the beginning poker player. Super System 2 assumes that you already know the fundamentals of the game and takes it from there. One of the strong points of this book is that it includes several poker games and is not focused entirely on No Limit and Limit Holdem. I found that to be very refreshing considering that I play Omaha, and RAZZ in addition to my No Limit game.
On the other hand it gets kind of annoying with all of the kudos given to the authors of each section. Most of the readers that would purchase this book already know what Dan Negreanu and Jennifer Harmon have done in the game. To me there is no reason to stroke them any more than necessary. One brief sentence would do just fine.
If you are a Stud player then this is not the book for you. Chip Reese covered most of this content in Super System one but there is no Stud material in this volume.
Overall, if you are sentimental and just want to complete the set then I wold buy it. Otherwise, I would take a pass on this one.
