Eric Lindgren discusses WSOP Final Table and Scotty Nguyen
Posted by Curtom | August 31, 2008 | Posted in: Articles, News, Poker Tournament | Comments (2)Here is the first interview with Eric Lindgren discussing the Final Table fiasco with Scotty Nguyen. I thought Eric was very kind and classy in how he handled the situation when it happened and he does the same in the interview.

Why isn’t anyone picking up on the fact that Lindgren admitted in that interview that he was buying Scotty drinks deliberately, knowing Scotty had a tendency to drink at final tables to “loosen up his game” since he is generally tight. Lindgren admitted he was getting a kick out of the whole situation as Scotty was unravelling. Lindgren was trying to get Scotty drunk so he would play like a maniac and get busted. Problem? It backfired and Lindgren lost.
Lindgren decried “I can’t even beat a drunk” when he walked off after he got busted. He should have said “I can’t even beat a drunk who I made drunk!
I guess it is okay for Lindgren to try to get Scotty hammered but not okay for Scotty to feel the alcohol.
I’ve always liked Scotty and still do. Most everybody has made at least one bad mistake with alcohol. People need to let this one go. I like Lindgren as well. But people need to stop treating him like a victim. He was not. If I ever play against Lindgren, I’ll now know that behind that cute boyish face lies a cold, calculating, poker player — one willing to get me drunk if he thinks it will give him an edge. I suppose that is fair, but let us all be warned.
Thanks for chiming in ZRW. You make some good points. I agree with you in reference to LIndgrens motives and tactics. My issue is more with Scotty and the treatment of the amatuer that was at the table with him and not necessarily Lindgren. Even though Scotty was far beyond “tipsy” I just felt that Scotty could have comported himself in a much more respectable manner.
Speaking for myself I don’t hate Scotty Nguyen but I do hope he gets some help. This is not the first time I have seen or heard of him having a few too many. Again, that is just my own opinion. I am sure Scotty is a great guy and he seems like a lot of fun and certainly entertaining but I do believe he has a problem that needs to be addressed.
As always ALL opinions are respected here at Do or Die Poker.
Take care!
