No Taxes for Swedish Online Poker Players

Yes, you heard that one right. There are no taxes for online poker players that play in Sweden. However, there is a bit of a catch to the scenario. Recently Sargon Ruya won $80,000 playing online poker.  The poker room was hosted in Monaco which is under consideration to become a member of the European Union. The difference in tax treatment stems from European Union rules that state that winnings from games such as poker are free from taxes within the EU.

Ultimately, the birden of proof is not on the defendant and it was ruled that Ruya does not have to pay taxes on his winnings.
